The moment I set foot on the high desert at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico, in 2015, I felt a visceral sense of place. As if I'd been a part of this sacred landscape for eons. New Mexico’s dance of light and shadow mesmerized me, quickly transforming colors and shapes, like the snap of a magician’s fingers.
After years of writing for magazines, I found myself carrying a camera more than a pen. Visual storytelling had begun.
I was born in San Francisco, raised in Cincinnati, lived up and down the East Coast, and in the highlands of Scotland.
In 2021, I moved to Santa Fe from North Carolina after years of visiting New Mexico. I settled into an adobe casita, and like a kid in a candy store, my Canon and I began a new artistic adventure. I’m a self-taught photographer, and try to shoot every day. Even though glaucoma and cornea transplants have affected my vision, they have also heightened my awareness to celebrate beauty in the ordinary.
Inspirational to my work are the minimalist paintings of Georgia O’Keeffe. Like me, O’Keeffe was smitten by the simplistic beauty of adobe architectures, geometric shapes, vibrant colors, and seeing the familiar in new ways.
I have come home to my artist’s soul in New Mexico.
